Can dentists shave down half of a tooth without it affecting nerves?

I had veneers put on for all my top teeth in the front but not the bottom. I dont want veneers on the bottom but my bottom teeth hit the top now because the dumb dentist put the veneers on wrong but its been 2 years and hes in another state and its like $1000 per tooth to get them replaced so I have to keep them but I want the bottom shaved down half way so they dont hit the top ones. Can dentists do this?

It seems like a big hassle to go from the dentist to the endodontist for a root canal only to go back to the dentist again to get a temporary crown and then back again for a permanent. A dentist who also practices endodontics could eliminate 3 appointments as I see it. That's three days I wouldn't have to take off work.
